This James Mathewuse illustration, from the Sweet Valley High #3 “Playing with Fire,” depicts slutty twin Jessica in thrall to Sweet Valley’s resident richie, Bruce Patman. He’s pretty much a compilation of every rich arrogant preppy cliche from movies from that time (i.e. Steff from Pretty in Pink, Biff from Making the Grade, even Greg Marmalard from Animal House) and is pretty much one of the most consistently entertaining characters in the entire series. Apart from his amusingly douchey smirk, I love his shelf of feathered hair and the sweater he always wears casually thrown around his shoulders. Apparently it was his thing.
